Pursuing diverse interests in passing his commitment to teaching music, Michael Korn founded the first chamber music festival for youth, "String Summit," in Alabama, and served as its music director. The program included chamber music and theory coaching as well as performances by a distinguished faculty and attracted students from several states. Michael served as music director of the String Institute of Alabama (originally, Suzuki Institute of Alabama), adjunct faculty member at Jacksonville State University and Stonehill College, and as a string and conducting faculty member at the Community Music Center of Boston. More recently, Michael is the Director of Orchestras and a member of the music faculty at Oliver Ames High School in Easton, MA. Currently, he also directs Easton Chamber Music Festival designed as an intensive workshop for adult musicians and concert series with an internationally renowned faculty. Michael has given violin masterclasses at many institutions, including the Alabama School of Fine Arts and the Longy School of Music; he has adjudicated the CrescendoInternational Competitions and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) string competitions. Most recently, Michael joined the distinguished faculty of Cremona International Music Academy in Italy. In addition, Michael has published essays on community orchestra repertoire strategies and Benjamin Franklin as a composer in Polyphonic.org, an online edition of the Institute for Music Leadership at the Eastman School of Music, and on teaching Terry Riley's in C and Kabalevsky in SBO magazine and teaching expressive skills to music students in Teaching Music Magazine.
Michael teaches violin, viola, chamber music, and conducting in his studio in Sharon, MA.
